RISE 167 - 2023-04-21
Korakuen Hall, Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan
Naoki, who is a Certified Joker, attempts to defend his RISE Light title. He is still the champion despite being 0-3 in 2022 including being knocked out twice. Challenging him is the Beyond Kickboxing-ranked #10 fighter in this weight class in the world, Kan Nakamura. Kan was 3-1 in 2022 and most recently knocked out Sumiya Ito at RISE 163 in December.
In the semi-final, BK-ranked P4P #5 fighter in the world Kazuki Osaki goes for the ISKA World Fly title against “Weedy” Nicolas Rivas. Osaki got a first round knock out of Javier Cecilio at RISE ELDORADO four weeks ago and is making a quick turnaround to enter a five-round title fight. “Weedy” is pictured wearing several titles but seems to have all of his fights in minor European organizations.
RISE Basics: Most fights are 3 3-minute rounds with a single 3-minute extra round if it’s a draw. 3 knockdowns in a round is a TKO, or 2 if it’s a tournament fight. Judges are fairly liberal with 10-10 round scoring, so you will often see fights scored 30-30 or 30-29. K-1 Kickboxing rules: knees are legal, elbows are not. Clinch must be broken with an immediate strike or the ref will separate. Title matches are five rounds and use open scoring.
Continuing RISE’s weird style of posting, the fights have commentary but no graphics including on-screen clock. Sorry. Fights highlighted in bold were ones that I found particularly entertaining.
