ABEMA presents RISE WORLD SERIES 2023 1st Round - 2023-07-02
Edion Arena, Osaka, Japan
The second big RISE show of 2023 is here as RISE begins their official partnership with internet streaming TV provider ABEMA and launches its WORLD SERIES for 2023, this time a 119 lb tournament. Conveniently held between two existing weight classes, both the 121 lb champion Shiro and the 117 lb champion Kazuki Osaki are the big draws in the competition. The tournament semi-finals will take place on August 26 in the 2nd round of the 2023 RISE WORLD SERIES.
The show also features champions Keisuke Monguchi and Ryota Nakano in non-title action, and 132 lb champion Chanhyeong Lee moves up to 139 pounds to fight the Mad Clown himself Yuma Yamaguchi in an Open-Finger Glove special attraction.
RISE Basics: Most fights are 3 3-minute rounds with a single 3-minute extra round if it’s a draw. 3 knockdowns in a round is a TKO, or 2 if it’s a tournament fight. Judges are fairly liberal with 10-10 round scoring, so you will often see fights scored 30-30 or 30-29. K-1 Kickboxing rules: knees are legal, elbows are not. Clinch must be broken with an immediate strike or the ref will separate. Title matches are five rounds and use open scoring.
The video files RISE uploaded do not have on-screen graphics.
Fights highlighted in bold were ones that I found particularly entertaining.
